Welcome to Central

Founded in 2005, the City of Central is located just northeast of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  In the 2010 Census, it had a population of 27,000 people, making it the 12th largest city in Louisiana.

The unofficial motto of the City of Central is “Country Living in the City.”  With a comfortable country atmosphere, a very low crime rate, great public and private schools, and warm, friendly people, Central is indeed a “Step Back in Time.”  Yet, with more than 500 businesses and a retail economy that exceeds $260 million a year, Central offers plenty of modern conveniences and great places to shop and dine.  What Central lacks is found 15 minutes away in Baton Rouge.

The Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport is located 7 minutes east and so is Interstate 110, which connects to Interstate 10.  The Central Thruway, the largest public construction project in the history of East Baton Rouge Parish, is nearing completion.  It will provide a rapid connection to Interstate 12.

Of particular pride is the Central Community School System.  The school system was created by the tireless work of countless local residents who succeeded in passing an amendment to the Louisiana Constitution, which permitted the establishment of the school system.  Starting with 2,400 students in 2007, it has grown to 4,000, a 67 percent increase.  More importantly, it is now in contention to be No. 1 among Louisiana’s 69 public school districts.  This year, Central High School’s seniors had the highest ACT scores in the state, in comparison to the other 68 districts.  In addition, Central’s 3rd graders have outscored the 3rd graders in every other school system in Louisiana for the past two years.

The brand-new $46 million Central School Complex is now nearing completion.  This modern, state-of-the-art facility will be the finest in the Baton Rouge area.  Located on 88 acres, it will house Central Middle School (6th, 7th, and 8th grades) and Central Intermediate School (3rd, 4th, and 5th grades).

Welcome to Central — a great place to live, work, or own a business!
